We interrupt your regularly scheduled program

We interrupt your regularly scheduled GTL Thursday to bring you...CINCO DE MAYO!

Even though I have to google it every year in order to remember what it is exactly that I am celebrating, this happens to be one of my favorite holidays ever!

For your convenience, I've already googled it today and am here to provide you with what you need to know as you gulp Margaritas, crunch on golden tortilla chips and yell, "Viva Mexico" somewhat loudly and inappropriately.

From the ever reliable, and always accurate Wikipedia:

(1) Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a Mexican civic holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn.

How awesome is that name? General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin? Yup. He's in the wolfpack.

(2) While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance in Mexico itself, the date is observed nationwide mostly in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

And most importantly,

(3) Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day, the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

How are you celebrating the fifth of May?
