“Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” -- Nora Ephron

"Whatever you choose, however many roads you travel, I hope that you choose not to be a lady. I hope you will find some way to break the rules and make a little trouble out there. And I also hope that you will choose to make some of that trouble on behalf of women." -Nora Ephron, Wellesley College '62.

I dream that one day I'll write like Nora Ephron, until then, I hope I can advocate for women as fiercely and authentically, and with as much humility, as she did.

This is who you'll always be to me.

I don't blame Theo for leaving the Red Sox for the Cubs.  Honestly, I'm thinking of doing the same thing.  The state of the organization right now is pathetic and an absolute disgrace to the game.  I've been angry at the Red Sox organization before, but I don't know that I've ever been ashamed of it.  Right now, I'm ashamed.

But all that's besides the point, Theo is leaving, and I'll miss him.  To me, he's one of the ultimate icons of the Red Sox success in 2004-2007.  I love him, and I've loved rooting for his team.  And I say that despite the fact that he traded away my favorite player ever.

Thanks for everything, Theo.  Good luck in Chicago.  Go Cubs!

Stay hungry. Stay foolish.

I'm taking Steve Jobs' death harder than is probably reasonable but I grew up on Macs.  Never owned a PC, Mac til I die.  Even when it's unpopular.  Currently, I own two MacBooks, an iPad, an iPhone and three iPods.  And I'm totally spoiled.

More than that though, Steve Jobs is such a inspiration.  His words here resonant with me as person and, in particular, as a person in the place in my life where I am: I just made a huge, risky move in my life because I'm search for the kind of passion and fulfillment that makes just surviving into a life.

"You’ve got to find what you love.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. And don’t settle.

As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking. Don’t settle." - Steve Jobs

So thank you, Steve, for the words and the products we live our lives on, and for reminding us not to settle.

Need More Mullins...

Tonight is Steve Carrell's last episode of The Office.  It's a sad night, and I'm thankful that I have the upcoming royal wedding to distract me (live blogging starts at 5:00am EST).  The sappy part of me is really glad that Michael found Holly, but the part of me that likes funny things really doesn't want him to leave the show.  Through the years he's given us laugher and tears (well, probably not real tears, but, you know, choked up), classic lines and more vicarious embarrassment than we'd ever imagined possible.  But, above all, he's been a teacher.  Teaching us the ways of the world and the ways of The Office.

Here are my favorite lessons:

Where to shop

The dangerous legacy of historic racism in America

How to Succeed in Business

Propriety

Good luck in Colorado, Michael!  We'll miss you!

GTL: Ronnie is a sour patch kid

Does Ronnie remind anyone else of the sourpatch kid commercials?

First he's sour (ie roid rage) and then he's sweet (sobbing into his t-shirt).

Either way, he's pathetic and vapid.

But here I am talking about him again. What does that say about me?

Forever a wildcat...

There are so many doors to be opened, and I'm not afraid to look behind them.  - Elizabeth Taylor

"When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be awesome instead...True story." ~Barney Stinson

No, I don't want to talk about it.

Honestly, I don't actually know enough about football to talk about it, even if I wanted to...which I don't.

All I'm going to say is that like all Pats fans right now, I'm sad. And I'm hoping Barney Stinson's motivational words (recently quoted by my sister) are going to be enough to get me through tonight and tomorrow.

Hang in there, New England.

~dfest

PS: Truck day is in less than a month. As is the premeire of Gossip Girl.

PPS: If I was talking about it, which I'm not, I would probably say that Sanchez is ugly.

PPPS: Yes, of course Barney Stinson is in my wolfpack. But that is a post for another day. Get excited if you can stop feeling so sad.
