Workin on my fitness: Tracy Anderson

As you guys can probably tell by now, I'm willing to try almost any workout.  I like variety.

I'm new to the Tracy Anderson method. I know its a bit controversial, but a bunch of celebrities swear by her approach--which includes lower-than-normal rep counts and moves that work your minor muscle groups--as opposed to the major.  The idea is that your muscles respond better to spontaneity and variety, and strengthening your minor muscle groups helps tighten and pull everything in.

Try this arm video and tell me what you think.

Not in the pack: Dancing rodents

Charles, Eric, Juice and I finally went to see TED. It was pretty good. Mark Walhberg is pretty enjoyable and Peter Griffin is always a good time. Anyway...during the before-the-previews-commercial, we saw the new 2013 Kia ad.

Me: Ughhh. I hate these rats. So does Rufus.
Charles: They aren't rats; they are hamsters.
Me: Whatever. These rodents are ridiculous. Whose idea was it to use hip hop hamsters to sell automobiles?
Charles: I don't know. But its not like I'm likely to believe a hamster.  This guy has zero credibility.  I mean, what does he really know? He spends most of his time in a wheel. He doesn't know anything about cars.
Me:  Right?

"We dance to the music, not the lyrics." ~Julia and her mom

Julia quoted her mom to me a few weeks ago while we were talking about relationships.  We dance to the music, not the lyrics.   Julia's mom is deep, huh?

I keep thinking about how it applies to me and my friendships.  But instead of doing anything about it, I'm just posting pretty pictures.

Its almost the weekend.  Let's dance.

Two players. Two sides. One is light. One is dark.

I am leaving for vacation one color, and plan to come back on the other side. I realize this has nothing to do with Lost.

Boys will come to you yard

I am obsessed with smoothies.

I start almost every day with a freshly whipped delicious and nutritious glass of Shakeology...which you can read about here.  Basically, you can get all of your servings of fruits, vegetables and superfoods in one drink.  Can't hate that.

I just recently started ending my days with a protein packed glass of Promasil, mixed with Amazing Grass Green Superfood.    The protein gives my developing muscles what they need post workout, and the amazing grass works to alkalinize my body and pH.

Side note:  I can't pronounce alkalinize to save my life. I'm honestly not sure if I'm even spelling it properly.

I almost always add a teaspoon of ch-ch-ch-chia seeds.  Not only do they fill me up, but they also deliver fiber, protein, and omegas.  (Oh my.)

Also, its creepy and fun to watch them absorb 9x their weight in water. I fill like friggin Bill Nye the Science Guy.

I include berries no matter what.  You should too.  Yes, that is a threat.  Just do it.  They have antioxidants.  No one really knows that means, but we know its good.  K?

And some unsweetened almond milk gives it a really smooth finish that my delicate pallet really appreciates.

Do you drink smoothies?  What are some of your staples and tricks?

Workin on my fitness: tabata

Have you guys heard about tabata workouts? I'm new to the philosophy. In sum, it is a form of high intensity interval training that uses 20 seconds of ultra-intense exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated continuously for 4 minutes (8 cycles).  In the original study, athletes using this method trained 4 times per week, plus another day of steady-state training, and obtained gains similar to a group of athletes who did steady state training 5 times per week.

While 4 minutes a day won't be enough to whip me into shape, it is enough to get my metabolism going on days when I'm not doing cardio.

Take a peek and try it out. What have you got to lose?

I think I wanna marry you.

You may have noticed that I've been MIA for the summer.  That's because I was in New Hampshire slash the greater New England region for the summer, hanging with my sister and helping her plan her wedding.  Well, it happened last Saturday and, I'm pretty bias, but it was the funnest wedding ever.  After a weekend of lawn games, hiking, delicious food, great company and more dancing and sweating then humanly possible, I'm incredibly tired, incredibly happy, and incredibly grateful for my amazing, hilarious, crazy family that got a little bit bigger this on Saturday.  As an added bonus, I did not pass out, pee myself, or cry during my speech.  All three were distinct possibilities.  Now I'm back in DC and back to work and in complete denial about both.  I will also be back to blogging shortly.  For now, I'll leave you with a quick preview of images from the day, taken by the uber-talent Amanda Borozinski of Boro Creative Designs.  If you're having a New England wedding, you're crazy if you don't look at Amanda's work.  (Oh, and she got these pictures while it was raining.)
